Homework 4 Parents

Page Under Construction - (As are most pages :-)

I thought that Homework For Parents was a catchy title to put up videos & information about topics that may interest both students and parents alike!  Creating this page seems like a way to include the WHOLE family in these BIG ideas.  It is also a way to EMPOWER parents over the content on issues that expand children's understanding of the world.  All videos I've chosen I feel are important in some way to help guide young minds to become more mature and independent thinkers - better ready for the challenges they are to face in just a few short years!

One of the many things I love to do is watch "TED Talks".  You'll find them at TED.com.  There are some other sites like VIMEO.com that I will include videos from as well, but TED.com is by far the one I watch most.  It costs nothing to visit here and you don't have to log in.  All you need is an Internet connection and some time.  Preview the videos first if you want, then decide to share them with your children or not. Watching these videos together is a great way to open up discussions with your child/children on important topics you may have never even considered.  I know I learn something new with just about every "TED Talk" I watch.  Comment below, if you'd like, on what you think of each video.  I'll create separate pages below different videos for you to watch, and will create a space for commenting on each video separately, instead of linking them all on one page.

The video above is about TIME.  I know it is hard for kids to think long-term, but because of the digital age, our children are growing up in an environment that no other generation of humans have ever experienced in the past.  This is why I think it is important to include exercise (like YOGA) and MEDITATION into the lives of our children as a way to help separate all the "noise" that we are surrounded with today.

Most importantly for PARENTS: Consider the ending message about how we spend time with our children, and how that can effect them their whole lives.  Small routines and experiences can impact our children in positive ways, and perhaps they will want to pass those types of experiences on to their children.
